Sani vs Ikos vs Domes: Which Halkidiki Resort Suits You?

Sani, Ikos and Domes are often mentioned in the same sentence, but they are not variations of the same holiday. Sani Resort is a large multi-hotel destination on the Sani headland in Kassandra. Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia are two separate luxury all-inclusive resorts belonging to the same group but sitting in different places — Nea Moudania and Gerakini respectively. Domes Noruz Kassandra is an Adults Preferred (16+) resort in the village of Hanioti. Choosing between them is mostly a question of who is travelling and what kind of setting you want around you.

Understanding the difference

Sani Resort is not a single hotel. It is a resort area that includes several individual hotels — Sani Beach, Sani Club, Porto Sani, Sani Dunes and Sani Asterias — along with a marina and extensive grounds. The guest experience differs noticeably between them: room types, layout, distance to the beach, atmosphere and price all vary, and a review of one hotel does not describe the others.

Ikos, by contrast, is a hotel group. In Halkidiki it operates two distinct resorts: Ikos Oceania at Nea Moudania and Ikos Olivia at Gerakini. They share a service concept but are in different locations, with different beaches, grounds and transfer times. Domes Noruz Kassandra is different again — a single Adults Preferred (16+) property in Hanioti, with a lifestyle orientation rather than the family infrastructure of the other two brands.

Sani Resort

Sani is the largest of the options compared here, occupying a green headland with its own beaches, walking paths, a marina with shops and restaurants, and a wetland nature area. Because it contains several hotels, it can suit couples and families at the same time — the choice of hotel inside the resort matters more than the choice of resort itself.

The football programme at Sani is associated with Chelsea FC, not Manchester United. Whether it is complimentary, chargeable or reservation-based depends on the current programme — check directly with the resort when you book.

On dining, Sani promotes menus and culinary collaborations involving internationally recognised and Michelin-starred chefs. That is not the same as the restaurants themselves holding Michelin stars, and any named chef or collaboration should be verified against the resort's current season before you build a trip around it.

Ikos Oceania

Ikos Oceania sits at Nea Moudania, in northern Halkidiki. Of the four properties compared here it is the closest to Thessaloniki Airport, which matters if you are arriving late, travelling with small children, or planning a short stay where an hour each way makes a difference.

It operates under the Ikos luxury all-inclusive concept, which bundles dining, drinks and a range of services into the rate, and it is used by both couples and families. The property is built on sloping ground, so the walking distance and gradient between rooms and the beach varies by room category — worth checking with the hotel if mobility, a pushchair or an early-morning coffee run matters to you. Restaurants, childcare and activities may need reservations or have age conditions, and rates change constantly, so we do not publish them here.

Ikos Olivia

Ikos Olivia is a separate resort at Gerakini, further along the coast from Oceania and roughly fifteen to twenty kilometres deeper into Halkidiki. It follows the same luxury all-inclusive concept and is set in a larger landscaped environment according to the group's current positioning, which gives it a more spread-out, garden-like feel.

It suits both couples and families, and as with Oceania the details that decide a holiday — childcare hours, dining reservations, adult-only areas, activity programmes — should be read from the resort's current official information rather than from third-party summaries. One correction worth making explicitly: Olivia is not 90 km from the airport. It is closer, in the 65–70 km range.

Domes Noruz Kassandra

Domes Noruz Kassandra is a beachfront, Adults Preferred (16+) resort in Hanioti, on the eastern coast of the Kassandra peninsula. The atmosphere is lifestyle-focused and aimed primarily at adult travellers and couples, with design, food and a calmer beachfront setting doing most of the work rather than family infrastructure.

Its location is a genuine advantage for travellers who do not want a self-contained bubble: Hanioti village is right there, with shops, tavernas, bars and a long organised beach, so you can walk out of the resort into an active Greek seaside village. It is the furthest of the four from the airport.

Domes Noruz Kassandra is Adults Preferred (16+), so it is not aimed at families with younger children, and it should not be described as a quiet family resort. We do not repeat any Marriott Autograph Collection affiliation for this property, because it is not confirmed by current official Domes or Marriott information.

Location and airport transfer comparison

These are ranges, not promises. Journey times depend on traffic, roadworks, how quickly you clear the airport, and how the resort itself is accessed — inside Sani, for example, the drive continues past the entrance to the specific hotel. Summer weekends, especially Friday and Sunday afternoons on the Kassandra road, take longer than the same trip in May.

Which resort is best for families?

Sani offers the widest set of choices, simply because you are choosing between several hotels with different room layouts and family facilities inside one large resort. Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia both operate a luxury all-inclusive format designed for couples and families together, with Oceania having the advantage of the shortest transfer. Domes Noruz Kassandra is Adults Preferred (16+) and is not aimed at families with younger children.

Rather than looking for a single best family resort, compare the things that actually shape the week: room layout for your children's ages, the age ranges each kids' club accepts, whether childcare is included or chargeable, the walk between room and beach, and what is included in the rate. Which resort is best for couples?

Domes may suit adults who want a lifestyle-focused stay with a village on the doorstep. Selected Sani hotels may suit couples who like the scale of a large luxury resort with a marina and plenty of choice in the evening. Ikos may suit couples who want the all-inclusive format without thinking about extras. None of these is objectively more romantic than the others; what changes the experience most is the specific property, its child policy and the season you travel in.

Dining comparison

• Ikos: a luxury all-inclusive dining model with a choice of restaurants; some venues operate on reservation and conditions apply.

We deliberately avoid publishing restaurant counts or calling every venue fine dining, because both change between seasons. A Michelin star belongs to a specific restaurant, not to a resort or a group, so treat any such claim with care unless the restaurant itself currently holds one.

Beach and atmosphere

All four have good coastal settings, but they are different coasts. Sani occupies its own headland with several beaches and a self-contained resort area. Ikos Oceania faces the sea at Nea Moudania, Ikos Olivia sits on the Gerakini shoreline, and Domes is on the Hanioti beachfront. Sea conditions, seaweed, wind and how busy a beach feels all vary with weather, month and time of day, so no honest guide can promise consistently calm, shallow or perfectly sandy water anywhere in Halkidiki.

What you can plan for is the surroundings: Domes has Hanioti immediately outside, Oceania has Nea Moudania, Olivia has Gerakini, and Sani is a self-contained resort area where the marina takes the place of a village.

Activities and childcare

Treat the table as a map of what to ask about, not as a list of guarantees. Whether a service is complimentary, included with conditions, chargeable, reservation-only or age-restricted changes by season and by property, and babysitting in particular is not universally free at any of these resorts. Confirm the current terms with the resort before you rely on them.

Hotel airport transfers: check before booking separately

This matters commercially, so we would rather be straightforward about it. Sani and Ikos may include complimentary arrival and departure transfers for qualifying direct bookings or minimum-stay packages. Eligibility can depend on the booking channel, the number of nights, the specific resort, the dates and the applicable terms — and those terms change, so we do not quote a fixed minimum-stay number here.

• Read your hotel confirmation before buying a separate airport transfer.
• Third-party, package-tour and short-stay bookings often have different conditions from direct bookings.
• Any Domes transfer benefit must be verified from your individual booking.
• If a transfer is included, use it — there is no reason to pay twice.
