Pefkochori Travel Guide 2026: Beaches, Food and Local Experiences

Pefkochori is a lively seaside destination on the eastern coast of the Kassandra peninsula, looking out over the Toroneos Gulf. It combines a long beachfront and promenade with a working village behind it — restaurants, cafés, bakeries, supermarkets and shops — and it is also a convenient base for reaching the quieter southern end of Kassandra. Some maps, hotel listings and road signs use the alternative spelling Pefkohori; both refer to the same village.

Where is Pefkochori?

Pefkochori lies on the eastern side of Kassandra, southeast of Hanioti and Polychrono. If you drive northwest along the coast you reach Hanioti first and then Polychrono. Heading in the opposite direction, southeast and then south, you come to the Glarokavos area, Paliouri and the southern end of the peninsula. Getting these directions right matters when you plan a day out: Glarokavos is not north of the village, and the section of the beach that faces Polychrono is at the northwestern side, not the southern end.

Pefkochori beach and the seafront

The village beach is long and, in summer, genuinely busy. It is not one uniform stretch: the central sections are the most convenient, with cafés, restaurants and accommodation directly behind the sand, while other parts are simpler and less developed. Available facilities — sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, watersports — vary by section and by season, and what operated last August may not operate in early June.

If you prefer space and quiet, walk or drive away from the busiest central section; the atmosphere changes within a few hundred metres. Parking near the seafront becomes difficult on peak summer evenings, which is one reason many visitors leave the car at their accommodation and walk into the centre. Do not assume every beach or attraction mentioned in local guides is within walking distance — several of the best spots nearby need a short drive.

Beaches and coastal stops near Pefkochori

• Pefkochori Beach — the village beach itself, most convenient and most developed in its central sections.
• Glarokavos beach and lagoon area — a short drive southeast, towards Paliouri, with a distinctive lagoon landscape.
• Chrouso beach area — on the way south, a quieter alternative to the village strip.
• Golden Beach area near Paliouri — worth the drive for a change of scenery at the southern end of Kassandra.
• The Loutra coastline — a scenic option on the southwestern side, best treated as a longer outing.

Two clarifications worth repeating. Glarokavos is southeast of Pefkochori, towards Paliouri, and is reached by road — it is a short drive, not a northern beach you can wander to along the sand. And beach facilities in all of these places are seasonal: in May, early June or October, check before you go rather than assuming sunbeds, food or parking will be operating.

The Glarokavos lagoon is an environmentally sensitive area. Take your rubbish with you, stay on established tracks and avoid driving onto sand, dunes or wetland edges.

Things to do in Pefkochori

• Walk the promenade in the evening, when the seafront is at its best.
• Swim early in the morning, before the beach fills and while the sea is calm.
• Explore the older streets set back from the waterfront, where the village feels more residential.
• Take a boat trip along the coast where licensed seasonal operators are running.
• Drive out to nearby villages and viewpoints on the southern half of Kassandra.
• Arrange an evening transfer if you want dinner in another village without worrying about driving back.
• Spend a half-day in Afitos, on the northern side of the peninsula.

Visit Afitos

Afitos is a separate destination in northern Kassandra, not a neighbourhood or beach of Pefkochori. It is a traditional stone-built village on a low cliff overlooking the Toroneos Gulf, known for its cobbled lanes, stone houses, central square, the church of Agios Dimitrios and wide panoramic views. It makes a rewarding half-day or evening excursion from Pefkochori, and it is one of the places on the peninsula where the walking itself — rather than the beach — is the point. Driving time depends on traffic and season, so plan the trip with some flexibility. Dining around Pefkochori and southern Kassandra

Pefkochori has a large number of seasonal tavernas, seafood restaurants, cafés and casual dining venues, concentrated around the seafront and the central streets. We deliberately avoid publishing a ranked list of “best restaurants”: ownership, menus and opening periods change from season to season, and a list that was accurate two summers ago can send you to a closed door. The reliable approach is to look at what is busy with locals in the early evening, and to confirm opening days directly, especially outside July and August.

Villa Stasa Sea Restaurant — Loutra Agia Paraskevi

Villa Stasa Sea Restaurant is located in Loutra Agia Paraskevi, not in Pefkochori. It is a scenic dining option for visitors willing to take a drive to the southern side of Kassandra. Its cliffside setting is known for sea views and sunsets, while the restaurant is associated with seafood and Greek cuisine. Check current opening times before you go and reserve during busy periods; a sunset-view table cannot be guaranteed. Note that similarly named bar and accommodation listings exist in the area, so confirm you are booking the sea restaurant.

Archontiko — Agia Paraskevi village

Archontiko is located in the traditional inland village of Agia Paraskevi, near the village centre — not in Loutra and not in Pefkochori. It is known primarily as a meat-focused restaurant with Greek dishes and a traditional village atmosphere. We do not publish its menu, prices or opening hours here; ask when you reserve, and book ahead on peak summer evenings. Taken together, Villa Stasa and Archontiko represent two different evenings out: seaside seafood and sunset views on one hand, village atmosphere and meat dishes on the other.

Where to stay in Pefkochori

Accommodation in Pefkochori is mostly small to mid-sized: hotels near the seafront, plus a large number of apartments, studios and suites in and around the village. Properties associated with Pefkochori include Flegra Palace, Mirablue Luxury Residences, Emily’s Luxury Suites, Seaside Oasis, Hotel Magdalena, Kapsohora, Alpha Luxury Suites, Agrielia Apartments, Villa Ilios Studios & Apartments and Hotel Tassos-Despina. These are not all hotels — several are apartments, studios, suites or residences, which means different services, check-in arrangements and cleaning schedules. Before booking, confirm the exact official name, category and location on the property's own website or current business profile.

Getting from Thessaloniki Airport to Pefkochori

The road distance from Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) to Pefkochori is approximately 95–100 km depending on where exactly you are staying, and a typical drive takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. Journeys can be longer during peak summer traffic, particularly on Friday and Saturday afternoons in July and August.

Public transport is possible but usually involves at least one connection, plus a further leg between the stop and your accommodation with your luggage. A rental car suits travellers who plan extensive independent exploration of Kassandra and beyond.
