Ouranoupoli is the last village before the border of the Mount Athos monastic state — the point where every pilgrim bound for the Holy Mountain passes through, and the port for the boats to Ammouliani island. It sits about 120 km from Thessaloniki Airport, further than any Kassandra or Sithonia resort, so the transfer is a journey in itself. We take you from the arrivals hall to your hotel, the ferry quay or the pilgrims' office for one fixed price per vehicle, agreed before you travel.

Private transfer from Thessaloniki Airport to Ouranoupoli

For pilgrims to Mount Athos

Most pilgrim itineraries are built around the morning boats to Dafni, the port of Mount Athos. Tell us which boat you are booked on and we plan the pickup so you are at the quay with time to collect your diamonitirion (entry permit) from the pilgrims' office before boarding. On the return, the driver waits at the Ouranoupoli quay at the boat's arrival time — with a name sign, exactly as at the airport — so you step off the ferry and straight into the car.

The route in practice

From the airport we take the Thessaloniki ring road and the highway towards Nea Moudania, then continue north-east past Ierissos and the Aristotelis mountain road. The drive is about 115 minutes in normal traffic. The last section, after Stratoni, is a winding coastal road with views towards the Athos peninsula — beautiful, but not fast, so we always allow a realistic margin when a boat departure is involved.

Ammouliani and the islands

If you are heading to Ammouliani, the small ferry from Tripiti runs every half hour in season and the crossing takes about ten minutes. We drop you at the Tripiti pier with your luggage right at the boat. For the return, send us your ferry time and the driver meets you at the same pier.

Return transfer for an early flight

Ouranoupoli is the furthest destination we serve from SKG, so early-morning departures need the most careful planning. Pickup time is calculated so you reach the airport at least two hours before your flight, plus the full 115-minute drive and a traffic allowance. The recommended pickup time is confirmed in writing before travel — for a 07:00 flight that means leaving Ouranoupoli around 03:00.

What to see in Ouranoupoli

The village itself rewards a few hours: the Byzantine Prosforiou tower on the seafront, the small beach by the harbour, and the tavernas along the quay where the Athos boats dock. Boat cruises along the western coast of the monastic state leave from here — the only way most visitors, and all women, can see the monasteries from the sea. If you have a long layover before a boat or a flight, tell us and we can suggest a realistic plan that fits your timing.

Hotels and accommodation we serve

We drive door-to-door to every address in and around Ouranoupoli: the beachfront hotels on the village strip, family studios on the hill, and the resorts towards Tripiti and the Ammouliani ferry. We also serve Nea Roda, Ierissos and the villages of the Aristotelis municipality on the same fixed-price basis. Enter your exact accommodation in the booking form — if it falls outside the standard zone, we confirm the price before you pay.

Pilgrim groups and monasteries

Organised pilgrim groups of 8 to 17 travel best in one minibus: everyone arrives at the pilgrims' office together, luggage stays in one vehicle, and the per-person cost drops well below two taxis. We regularly serve groups visiting the monasteries of the Athos peninsula as well as the Stagira and Olympiada area on the way. Tell us the group size, the boat you are booked on and any stops you want en route, and we confirm the right vehicle and a single fixed price before you book.

Autumn, winter and the quiet season

Unlike the resort peninsulas, Ouranoupoli stays alive outside summer: pilgrims visit Mount Athos all year, and autumn and spring are considered the best seasons for a pilgrimage. The roads are quieter, the drive is often faster than in August, and our fixed prices stay the same in every season. We operate 24/7, including night arrivals and early-morning departures.

What the price includes

  • Fixed price per vehicle, including fuel, taxes and applicable road charges
  • Meet & greet with a name sign in the arrivals hall
  • Flight monitoring and up to 60 minutes of complimentary airport waiting after landing
  • Standard luggage for the booked number of passengers
  • Child and booster seats on request, at no extra charge
  • Private vehicle — no shared shuttle, no meter, 24/7 service

Bookings made at least 10 days before pickup receive an automatic 10% discount on the vehicle price of the booking. It is applied by the booking engine and shown in the total before you confirm.

Airport pickup process

Give us your flight number when you book. We follow the flight and set the pickup to its actual arrival time. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall with a name sign, helps with the luggage and walks you to the vehicle in the short-stay car park a few steps from the terminal exit.

Flight delays & waiting time

We monitor the flight number provided with the booking and adjust the pickup to the flight's actual arrival. For airport pickups, up to 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time applies after the recorded landing time. Exceptional baggage delays or other issues should be reported immediately. Additional waiting may be charged according to the booking terms.

Luggage

Standard luggage is included. Prams, golf bags, skis, wheelchairs and other oversized items must be declared in advance. Vehicle suitability depends on the combined number of passengers and luggage and must be confirmed before travel.

Child seats

Child and booster seats are provided on request at no extra charge. Tell us the children's ages in the booking notes so the correct seat is fitted before pickup.

Return transfer to SKG

You can add your return journey during the same booking process. The complete price is shown before confirmation. Your driver confirms the pickup time the day before, based on your departure flight.

Frequently asked questions

Can you pick me up from the Ouranoupoli port after the Mount Athos boat?

Yes — this is one of our most common Ouranoupoli pickups. Tell us the boat you are on and the driver waits at the quay with a name sign at its scheduled arrival time, then drives you straight to Thessaloniki Airport or your hotel.

How long is the drive from Thessaloniki Airport to Ouranoupoli?

About 115 minutes in normal traffic, covering roughly 120 km. In summer weekends allow up to two hours.

Do you serve the Mount Athos cruises from Ouranoupoli?

Yes. The Athos sightseeing boats leave from the main quay in the morning and return early afternoon. We time your transfer to match the departure and can wait or return for the pickup after the cruise.

Where do I collect the diamonitirion (Mount Athos entry permit)?

The diamonitirion is issued by the Mount Athos Pilgrims' Bureau in Ouranoupoli, a short walk from the boat quay. When you book, tell us your boat's departure time and we plan the pickup so you have enough time at the bureau before boarding.

We are a pilgrim group of 10-17 people — what vehicle do we need?

A minibus covers up to 17 passengers with luggage in one vehicle, at one fixed price. Send us the exact group size and luggage count in the booking form and the system shows the minibus price instantly — usually far cheaper per person than two or three taxis.

Do you run transfers to Ouranoupoli at night or in winter?

Yes, we operate 24/7 all year. Mount Athos pilgrimage runs in every season, and night arrivals at SKG are no problem — the driver monitors your flight and waits at arrivals with a name sign whenever you land.

Can we stop on the way — for example at Stagira or for food?

A short comfort stop is always free. Longer stops, such as a visit to the Aristotle park in Stagira or a meal in Ierissos, can be added as extras in the booking form so the final price is agreed before you travel.

How much does the transfer from Thessaloniki Airport to Ouranoupoli cost?

The price is fixed per vehicle, not per person, and is shown in the booking form before you pay — a sedan for up to 3 passengers, a minivan for families, or a minibus for pilgrim groups up to 17. Tolls, taxes and flight monitoring are included; there are no extras at the end.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We monitor your flight number in real time. If the flight lands late, the pickup time moves with it at no extra charge — the driver is at arrivals when you actually come out, whenever that is.

Where exactly do I meet the driver at Thessaloniki Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall, right after the luggage belts and customs, holding a sign with your name. You receive the driver's details before travel, and if you cannot spot each other you call or message and we guide you — the meeting point never changes.

How do I pay for the transfer?

Online by card when you book — you can pay the full amount or a deposit with the balance to the driver. The price you see at checkout is the final price; nothing is added on the day.

How much luggage can we bring?

A sedan fits standard luggage for up to 3 passengers; families with several large suitcases are usually better in a minivan. Declare your luggage count in the booking form — the system suggests the right vehicle so nothing is left on the pavement.

Do you provide child seats?

Yes — baby seats and boosters are available on request. Add the children's ages in the booking notes and the right seats are fitted before pickup, at no extra charge.

How far in advance should I book?

Online bookings close 24 hours before pickup. Inside that window, message us on WhatsApp and we confirm availability in person — for early-morning pilgrim boats we recommend booking at least a couple of days ahead.

Can I book the return from Ouranoupoli to the airport at the same time?

Yes — select the return option in the booking form and both legs are confirmed together, with a return-trip discount applied automatically. For airport-bound returns we calculate the pickup time from your flight departure, so you never cut it fine.

Is the transfer private or shared with other passengers?

Always private. The vehicle is exclusively for you and your party — no other passengers, no detours to other hotels, no waiting for strangers. The fixed price covers the whole vehicle.

Can you take us from Ouranoupoli to places other than the airport?

Yes — Thessaloniki city centre, hotels anywhere in Halkidiki, Kavala for the ferries to Thassos, or any other address in northern Greece. Enter the exact destination in the booking form or message us for a fixed quote.
